About ZLAC: General Information and Links

Rowing

If you are interested in learning how to row, please visit our Learn to Row information page. We offer Masters classes (for adult women age 18 and over) and Juniors classes (for girls age 13-17). Rowing uses your entire body - nine muscle groups and around 85% of your muscles total (more if you smile!). It can be an intense workout, or it can be a relaxing cruise on the bay. Rowers go out on the water either alone (in a single shell), or in groups of 2-9 people. In many boats, there are 4-8 rowers plus a coxswain (pronounced “cox-un,” or just “cox”), who is the woman steering the boat and directing the rowers. The classic combination of fresh air and exercise, plus the peacefulness of the water and the camaraderie of a group of like-minded women, is beneficial for the mind and the body.

At ZLAC, nonmembers may join our coached rowing programs — our Masters program or Juniors program — after completing a Learn-to-Row class. If you already have rowing experience, you may be able to join our coached rowing program with approval of the coach. Please email masters@zlac.org. Using club boats without a coach is restricted to club members.

Social

In addition to rowing, since 1892 ZLAC has been a place where its members enjoy private events, guest speakers, family access, clubhouse rentals, and above all, bonding with other women. ZLAC is a private, nonprofit club, which means that membership is by invitation. See our Membership Page for more information.
