Physical Requirements
Rowing is a physically demanding sport that requires strength, balance, and endurance. Participants must lift, carry, and position rowing equipment to and from the water in coordination with others, and must be capable of safely lifting approximately 40 lbs (18 kg) individually overhead without assistance. Individuals unable to meet this physical requirement should not participate.
To help you visualize the lifting requirement, below are examples of items we may carry in everyday life. The 5 gallon bucket of water is roughly comparable to the weight you must be able to lift overhead during a rowing session.
1.5 liter box wine = 4 to 5 lbs
1 gallon (128 oz) laundry detergent = 10 lbs
Large bag of cat litter = 20 lbs
5 gallon bucket of water = 42 lbs
